There are several benefits of understanding strategy (at corporate level, business unit level, and functional level) within organisations. For example, in areas including managerial decision-making; resource deployment; as well as stakeholder management among others, the importance of a winning strategy cannot be overemphasised. The "exploring strategy framework" can be applied in many contexts - from private to public, to the third sector. In each of these contexts the balance of strategic issues differs and/ or varies across small businesses (e.g. strategic purpose, growth issues and retaining independence); multinational corporations (e.g. geographical scope; cultural issues and structure/control issues); public sector organisations (e.g. service/quality and managing change issues); and even in the context of not-for-profit organisations (e.g. purpose and funding issues), especially as these divergent organisations strive to define, enhance, debate, shape, and activate their strategic choices and actions.
